The Issue with Desert Awareness Park

Today, I sent a letter to the Cave Creek Mayor and Town Council requesting that they postpone the June 16 vote on the proposed Stagecoach Village shared parking agreement involving Desert Awareness Park (read letter to the Cave Creek Town Council).

This is not about supporting or opposing the project. It is about ensuring that residents have enough time to fully understand the proposal, evaluate its impacts, and provide meaningful input before a final decision is made.

Desert Awareness Park is a public asset that belongs to the people of Cave Creek. Many residents have raised questions about the proposal, its long-term implications, and the process leading up to the vote. When decisions involve public property, transparency and public participation matter.

A short postponement would:
• Give residents additional time to review the proposal.
• Allow neighboring property owners, park users, and local businesses to share their perspectives.
• Ensure alternatives and long-term impacts are fully discussed.
• Strengthen public confidence in whatever decision is ultimately reached.

Good government is not just about following the law. It is about earning public trust through openness, engagement, and thoughtful decision-making.

If this proposal is truly in the best interest of Cave Creek, additional public review will only strengthen its credibility and support.
